Park Place Shopping Center Facade Improvement
I came across these old pics of our first facade project, nearly 15 yrs ago, at Park Place shopping center in Atlanta, across from Perimeter Mall.
When we started it, I had no idea how we were going to get the curve at the top of the wall right. It was a series of independent frames that had to go side by side to create the smooth arch.
The plans were no help. They showed what the finished product was to look like, how tall at the center, but nothing about how to get from the center height to the edges.
Then I remembered my calculus class from sophomore year of college. I then thought about it in terms of the rate of change of the slope of the tangent line of the curve being constant, and it suddenly made sense.
I think that was the first time I actually used all that math in a real life application, but it made what had seemed daunting, suddenly easy.
All these years later, it still looks great
